SINGLE PARENTS IN HUNGARY

The Single Parents’ Centre is both a helping and a communal space, which is regarded as a pioneering initiative not only in Hungary but also internationally. It welcomes single parents and their children with various opportunities and a variety of events in two locations, in Pest and Buda. Since its beginnings the Centre has provided more than 70 services to make everyday life easier, be it, for example, support projects for parents, community building or assistance in avoiding problems. In addition, the Centre helps in crises and even in finding employment.

In Hungary a parent is absent in 341,000 families. As a result, half a million children are brought up by only a mother or a father. The Single Parents’ Centre has been established to provide practical assistance, support and a community for them, because we are convinced that every single parent and child growing up in a single parent family has the right for equal opportunities.
